Carol Ann Welsh, 87, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center.

Carol Ann Boyum Welsh was born to Rueben and Mildred (Kramer) Boyum on October 4, 1936, in Farmington, Minnesota. They continued to live there until she was 3 years old when they moved to Dodge Center to be close to family. Her father owned and operated a garage and filling station until his death in 1972, (Boyum’s Texaco). Her mother started the first kindergarten class, under Superintendent Oliver Mieras, in the basement of the Methodist Church. Carol graduated from Dodge Center High School in 1954, Rochester Junior College in 1956, and Mankato Teacher’s College in 1957. She accepted a teaching position at Jefferson School in Rochester, MN where she taught for 3 years.

Carol married her husband, Richard August 3, 1958, at the First Congregational Church, the same church they celebrated their 50th Anniversary at in 2008. After teaching in Rochester for 3 years she was going to have their first child. In the 50’s you had to resign from your teaching position when you were going to have a child. She resigned, devoting her life to being a mother. Richard and Carol have 2 sons, Richard John and Daniel Joseph. She later went back to teaching when Oliver Mieras of Dodge Center couldn’t start school, because he was short a 3rd grade teacher. Carol decided to go back. She later received her master’s degree from the University of Minnesota and continued teaching until her retirement from Triton in 1997 with a total of 33 years of teaching. After retirement they returned to AZ where she had lived 2 winters because of her asthma. They purchased a home in Mesa, AZ which they continued to enjoy during the winter months and where her husband enjoyed his old car hobby. Carol has been a lifetime member of the First Congregational Church where she played piano for Sunday School, and organ for church, and has always been grateful that her sons and grandchildren have lived close by. Her hobbies have been knitting, sewing, playing piano and organ, and collecting antiques. Carol has been a member of the Monday Music Club since 1957.

Carol is survived by sons, Richard (Shari) Welsh of Dodge Center, MN and Daniel (Susan) Welsh of Claremont, MN; grandchildren, Richard Welsh II of St. Paul, MN; Danielle (Jacob) Snyder of Claremont, MN; Michelle (Jake) French of Dodge Center, MN; Rachel (Michael) Theis of Cresco, IA and great-grandchildren, Griffin Snyder, Sophia Snyder, Beckett Snyder, Samia French, Amira French, Jaxson Theis, and Beau Theis. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard and her parents.

The funeral service was at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at the First Congregational Church, 12 2nd Street NW in Dodge Center. Reverend Keith Mosier officiated. Visitation was one hour before the service at the church. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery in Dodge Center.
