CITY OF CLAREMONT

CITY COUNCIL MEETING

THURSDAY, JULY 7, 2022

6:00 P.M.

A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Claremont, Minnesota was held on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. at Claremont City Hall.

Members present: Mayor Tasha Dahl, City Council Members Jacob Klejeski, Hunter McGovern, and Deb Ellis. Council Members absent: None.  There is 1 vacant city council seat.

City staff and others present: City Administrator Evan Brown, City Clerk/Treasurer Elizabeth Sorg, City Attorney Mark Rahrick, and First Responder Director Casey Dahl.

Motion by Klejeski to approve the Agenda with 1 addition of City Administrator Brown’s 90-day Performance Review under Personnel Committee, second by McGovern. Motion carried unanimously.

PUBLIC INPUT

None

CONSENT AGENDA

The Consent Agenda consisted of:  Minutes of the June 7, 2022, City Council Meeting and Resolution No. 22-19: Resolution Certifying Past-Due Bills to Dodge County for Collection with 2023 Property Taxes.  Motion by Ellis to approve the Consent Agenda, second by McGovern. Motion carried unanimously.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

PERSONNEL COMMITTEE

Council held a 90-day performance review for Administrator Brown before this meeting.  Council stated overall he is doing very satisfactory.

FINANCE COMMITTEE

Motion by McGovern to approve the financial reports, second by Ellis. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by McGovern to approve the amended list of bills to be paid, second by Ellis. Motion carried unanimously.

PUBLIC HEALTH & SAFETY COMMITTEE

Nothing at this time.   

PLANNING & ZONING COMMITTEE

Nothing at this time.

EDA

Dean Schuette turned in a bill for the business façade grant reimbursement.  Schuette stated ½ of the bill is for his property on West Front Street and ½ for Gatorbak for their parking lot improvements.  Both grant applications requested $2500, and the bill total was $8850.  The council wanted the bill broken out on how much of blacktop millings went to Gatorbak and how much to Schuette’s property and to remove the part of the bill that was for Schuette’s personal driveway.

PARKS COMMITTEE

They will be having a meeting soon. 

PEOPLESERVICE

Waiting for MPCA’s approval on the pump replacement.

CITY ATTORNEY

Nothing at this time.

CITY ENGINEER

Nothing at this time.

OLD BUSINESS

None

NEW BUSINESS

The 2004 Ford maintenance truck isn’t getting used much since there is only 1 employee in the maintenance department and a major reason it was purchased was for lifting manhole covers but that can be done with the heavy-duty magnet and the skid loader.  The council agreed to sell it on MN Bid.  Motion by Ellis to approve selling the 2004 Ford Truck on MN Bid with a minimum of $7000, second by McGovern.  Motion carried unanimously.

The city council will have a budget workshop on Tuesday, July 26 at 6 p.m.

Motion by Klejeski to adjourn the meeting at 6:22 p.m., second by Ellis. Motion carried unanimously.
