SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING

MONDAY, JANUARY 8, 2024

7:15 P.M.

A special meeting of the City Council of the City of Claremont, Minnesota was held on Monday, January 8, 2024, at 7:15 p.m. at Claremont City Hall.

Members present: Mayor Tasha Dahl, City Council Members Jacob Klejeski, Hunter McGovern, Deb Ellis, and Krystal Sultze. Members absent: None. City staff and others present: Administrator/Clerk Elizabeth Sorg, First Responder Director Casey Dahl, Dodge Center Administrator Lee Mattson, Dodge Center Ambulance Director AJ Gengler, and a Dodge Center Council Member.

The purpose of this special meeting was to discuss the future outlook of the Dodge County Ambulance. There are staffing challenges as fewer people are volunteering. They do bill for services, but reimbursement rates are minimal to nothing if the patient is on Medicaid or Medicare. There have been discussions about having a joint powers board or a taxing district to help fund the ambulance service. They are meeting with cities and townships to see if there is support and if so, would a joint powers board or taxing district be preferred. The council said they understand the need and the issues but at this time they don’t have a definite preference between a joint powers board or taxing district. The council also has concerns about what would happen if all cities or townships don’t want to participate but they did say they are willing to continue conversations on this issue.

Motion by Ellis to adjourn the meeting at 8:14 p.m., second by McGovern. Motion carried unanimously.
