Sounds of the season at Triton High School

Over the past few months, the Triton High School band and choir, under the direction of Ms. Coy and Mr. Wotherspoon, were practicing for their concert on Tuesday, October 28th, at 7 p.m. in the high school performing arts center. This was their fall concert, and the band played the songs “Sparks,” “Fanfare for the Unsung Hero,” and “The Light Eternal,” the mixed choir sang the songs “Tamu Tu,” “Song of the Sea,” and “Bang the Drum All Day,” and the concert choir sang the songs “Let the River Run,” “Even in My Time,” and “Nyon Nyon.” Both the choir and the band played the song “Crazy Train” together.

When asked why she chose these songs, Ms. Coy said that they are “fun, exciting, and a good difficulty that challenges not only the freshmen but also the seniors.” When asked about the history of the songs, Ms. Coy added that “The Light Eternal's history was four U.S. Army chaplains who heroically sacrificed their lives during World War II.” For the choir, Mr. Wotherspoon said that “The Song of the Sea’s history was from the point of view of a sailor who spent their life on the ocean.

When asked what they are most proud of from the concert, Ms. Coy said that she was proud of “doing more types of music in general.” Mr. Wotherspoon said that he is proud of “how everyone in both choirs improved. The concert choir had a loud, full sound for such a small number of people.” He added, “the mixed choir is the most complete freshman class I have taught, along with all of the parts being covered.” Tuesday's performance showed improvement across all of the students.

Overall, Triton High School is very proud of its band and choir students for their hard work and dedication.
