On a beautiful sunny spring day, Triton FFA hosted its annual Progressive Ag Safety Day on Friday May 15 with the Triton 3rd graders on the Dodge County Fairgrounds. Additionally, the 3rd graders had part of the full day experience learning about how food is produced by touring the CHS Feed Mill in Kasson and ending the experience with a tour of Gochnauer Farm's dairy farm operation in West Concord. Thirty middle school and high school students organized and instructed 70 third grade students about safety around big equipment and PTO's, household chemicals, recreational equipment safety, animal safety, electrical safety and opportunities in FFA when they get to middle school and high school age.
An event like this needs many industry partners to put this on. The Dodge County Fairgrounds provided us with facilities to use and fairboard representative Scott Schley assisted us with setting up and taking down the event. Dodge County Farm Bureau provided the snacks for the elementary students. M and M Lawn and Leisure provided a skid steer, ATV and UTV for students to learn about safe operation. CHS sponsored the cost of registering the event with the Progressive Ag Foundation along with providing lunch for the volunteers, staff to run the household chemical safety station, staff to instruct the large equipment and PTO safety station, and safety station and tour of the feed mill. Scott McMartin of McMartin Electric provided materials and instruction for the electrical safety demonstration. Megan Gochnauer of Gochnauer Farms provided a milking demonstration and tour of her family's dairy farm in West Concord. All of the members of Triton FFA greatly appreciate the support and assistance from our industry partners!
