Last season, the football Cobras finished 6-6, having won the section title over Maple River, before losing to Cannon Falls in the state quarterfinals. Head Coach Brandon Neseth, has an 11-12 record at Triton, and he holds a respectable 44-34 career head coaching record. He is assisted by Coltt Ullom, Sam Storle, Brady Essig, Cole Rollins, Mark Evjen, Dale Tate, and Joe Giesler. Top Returners: Pierce Petersohn, junior, QB/S, 6-5, 195 lbs., physically gifted athlete who started last year and was a big reason Triton made it to the state playoffs for the first time since 2010. Pierce threw for over 1,000 yards and had 13 TDs passing. The sky’s the limit for him and he is equally adept running and throwing. Pierce is a potential college football player and had numerous schools invite him to their campuses this summer. Brody Munnikhuysen, senior, RB/LB, 5-10, 165 lbs., a dynamic athlete that can do special things when the ball is in his hands. He had two, deep receiving TDs in the section finals against Maple River last fall. Brody will be a focal point of what the Cobras want to do on offense. Craig Knutson, senior, OL/DL, 6-2, 245 lbs., a three-year starter on the OL/DL, an intelligent player that understands the game at a higher level; expecting big things from him this fall.
Top Newcomers: Graden Thomas, sophomore, WR/LB, a phenomenal athlete, who has a natural feel for the game; missed much of his 9th grade season with a shoulder injury, but had a great summer in the weight room and on the practice field.
Season outlook: Triton aspires to be a team that continues to improve throughout the season and to be playing their best ball come playoff time. They play in as good of a district as there is in the entire state for AA football, which helps come playoff time. “We don’t have a large senior class in terms of student-athletes that play football, but we have a number of solid football players in the group that are also good leaders for us. We are excited for the opportunity to open up at Maple River, a team we played first last year and played in the section finals of 2AA,” said Coach Neseth.
“We’ll have a young squad in 2024, but we are excited with how hard they worked to put themselves in position to be successful in 2024 during the off-season. A lot of our success will hinge on the ability of our offensive line to gel in order to compete in the district and section we are in this fall,” Coach Neseth added.
